Kindred Place: Healing Hearts, Strengthening Families — A November Message of Gratitude and Hope
As we enter the season of gratitude, Kindred Place stands as a testament to what compassion, partnership, and perseverance can achieve. Since reopening its doors in January 2025, Kindred Place has served more than 1,000 children, parents, and families who sought healing, guidance, and hope. Each counseling session, support group, and parenting class represents a step toward rebuilding lives and strengthening families throughout Memphis and Shelby County. A Reflection of the Community We Serve The heart of Kindred Place’s work lies in its reflection of Memphis’ diversity. Since reopening, the racial and ethnic composition of those served shows a clear connection to the broader community: African American/Black: 515 clients Hispanic/Latino: 91 clients White: 77 clients Asian: 5 clients American Indian: 1 client Other: 3 clients Not Provided: 232 clients These numbers show that Kindred Place is reaching deeply into neighborhoods where need is greatest, providing culturally responsive services that meet people where they are. The majority of those served identify as African American, consistent with the demographics of families most impacted by trauma, poverty, and limited access to behavioral health resources in Shelby County. Who We Are Helping Healing begins early at Kindred Place — and spans generations. Clients served range from toddlers to grandparents, with the largest groups being: Ages 31–40: 442 clients Ages 19–30: 338 clients Ages 13–18: 288 clients Ages 8–12: 276 clients Ages 41–50: 210 clients Younger Children (ages 2–7): 106 clients combined Ages 51 and above: 158 clients These numbers tell a powerful story: parents and guardians are not only seeking help for their children — they are seeking help for themselves. Every age group is represented, underscoring that trauma and emotional stress affect the entire family system, not just individuals. Why Families Come to Kindred Place Families turn to Kindred Place for counseling and emotional support that restores hope and promotes long-term stability. The most utilized services include: Individual Counseling: 822 sessions delivered Parenting Classes (English & Spanish): 39 sessions Anger Management and Domestic Violence Groups: 37 sessions Children’s Grief and Art Processing Groups: 42 sessions Behind these numbers are families learning to communicate again, children rediscovering trust, and parents gaining tools to nurture rather than react. The rise in counseling demand across all age ranges demonstrates a growing community awareness — mental health is essential to family health. The Power of Your Support Every story of recovery at Kindred Place begins with compassion — and that compassion is powered by donors like you. Your giving sustains our licensed therapists, supports evidence-based trauma interventions, and allows us to provide affordable or no-cost counseling to those who could not otherwise afford care. As we approach the season of giving, your generosity can help Kindred Place continue to heal families, one session at a time. Every donation — whether large or small — translates directly into restored lives and stronger communities. Together, we are proving that when families heal, the entire city heals.
